Musing Mondays (5)

Musing Mondays is hosted by Rebecca at Just One More Page...

Do you find yourself forming trends in your reading? Is this a conscious act, influenced by either your own interests or current publishing fads?

In the past, I'd have to say there were trends. Of course, I used to read a lot more books. It's kind of difficult to notice trends when you only get through one or two books in a month.

Those trends, however, are not really based on the current fad. It might appear that way at the moment, what with all the fantasy/paranormal YA romance stuff I've been reading, but that's just where my interests lie. I've always liked those sorts of books. I don't read something just because it's popular; it has to interest me to make me pick it up... and actually finish it.

  1. Definitely.
For example: Right now I'm in an heaven trend and I'm steering clear of vamps.

  2. I know what you mean. I've always liked fantasy and speculative, and I'll always read them.

  3. I can kind of see both sides of the question.

In the way of what I read. Well, I read it because, as you, it is what I like. These are kind of my safety zone. I do read other book themes as well, but always seem to come back to the same place.

But, over at the Barnes & Noble site I visit, we post what books are coming out. And in posting these releases I can see at times a pattern to what is being written. But I think the writing (published books) follow what people want to read or what they are reading.

So which came first the chicken or the egg? LOL This is a good question to debate...
