E-book readers?

I'm considering getting an e-book reader, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. My piles of books are really getting to me, though; I can't look at them without feeling guilty for killing trees.

If you have an e-book reader, what kind do you have? Do you like it, or does it have so many problems that you tend to avoid using it?

Please keep in mind that I'm in Canada and we don't have access to the Kindle. (I guess Amazon figures that Americans are the only people on the planet who read. Hey... it's their loss; think of that giant untapped market of potential Kindle customers that they're ignoring!) The Sony Readers are available here, but I've seen mixed reviews; the glare issue seems to be a big problem. Does anyone have a Sony Reader? Or something else that's even better?

What would you recommend?

  1. Ya know I've been thinking about this too recently.
But I (like you) don't really know where to start.
Please let me know what you learn.
    :)
    Good luck.

  2. I can't help much because I have and LOVE my Kindle. :(

I'm not a fan of the Sony Reader. Unless they've come out with one that is wireless and their book prices have dropped.

Those are the two reasons why I went with the Kindle. Wireless access to instantly download my purchases and the one-stop-shop option. I hate the time wasted to do some bargain shopping, which is what would be needed w/ the Sony or any other ebook reader. Unless you find one outlet that continuously offers the lowest prices.

It's the best investment I've made within the (almost) 2 years I've had it. Either way you'll save money, trees, and precious bookshelf space. :)

  3. Sometimes I feel guilty about all the trees that were killed for my shameless love of books so... I try to recompensate by recycling every piece of paper I can. xD

I've never used or had an e-book reader. Frankly, I prefer books because I enjoy holding them and being able to touch them. Sure, an e-reader is tangible too but for me, it just isn't a book! It's a screen filled with words... I guess I'm just old-fashioned, lol.

  5. I'm in Canada too, so the Kindle was never an option for me either.

I have an iPod Touch and use Stanza. I got given it for my birthday 6 months ago and wanted it just as an eReader and I use it everyday and it's fabulous. I also use Chapters Indigo eBook client Shortcovers.
