Booking Through Thursday (11)

Booking Through Thursday asks:

Suggested by JM:

“Life is too short to read bad books.” I’d always heard that, but I still read books through until the end no matter how bad they were because I had this sense of obligation.

That is, until this week when I tried (really tried) to read a book that is utterly boring and unrealistic. I had to stop reading.

Do you read everything all the way through or do you feel life really is too short to read bad books?

I don't read everything all the way through. Life is too short for boring books. But bad books... well, sometimes it's cathartic to finish them and then review the heck out of them. Plus, you're doing a public service (maybe you'll prevent someone else from making the same mistake of picking up that particular book).

For me, though, the saying would more likely be, "Life is too short to re-read books." With all the great books out there that I have yet to read, I can't justify spending time reading a novel I've already read... no matter how much I enjoyed it the first time.

  1. That's tough! I have so many books I already would love to read again. But I know I have to wait, I have many more that need to be read for the first time. Here's my link: http://thecrowdedleaf.wordpress.com.

  2. I love the idea of review bad books as a public service. I guess it is! Hmm...in that case maybe I will finish my current book.

    Here's my BTT answer.

  3. You know, I never looked at it that way but maybe every once in awhile I will finish a bad book just to give my opinion. Great site btw!

  4. I'm with you on re-reading. I read hundreds of books a year but can only think of about a dozen books I've re-read. My full post is here.
