Musing Mondays (23)

Musing Mondays is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.

Do you prefer hardcovers, trade paperbacks (the bigger ones), or mass market paperbacks (the smaller ones)? Why?

Good question.  I think it's a toss-up between hardcovers and trade paperbacks.  I hate mass market paperbacks (they smell funny).  Hardcovers are nice, but they can be heavy (and since I read in bed, it can be hard on the hands to hold a 600-page tome over your head).  Trade paperbacks are lighter, but some of them have the sort of cover that wants to curl like you've stuck it in a curling iron even though all you've done is hold the pages open (and that drives me crazy).

I'm kind of liking e-books at the moment, though.  They all weigh the same on my e-reader, there are no covers to curl, and they don't smell like anything at all.

  1. Hardcovers. They last longer and look awesome on a shelf.

  4. I agree with the trade paperbacks' covers curling. Annoying! I've been thinking about buying an eReader... maybe for Christmas. Thanks for stopping buy. :)

  5. Thanks for stopping by my Reading Corner.

I haven't thought of buying an e-reader, because I have so many books waiting on my bookshelves to be read. I like the trade paperback books best, and I have no trouble with the covers curling. I recently gave a friend a book I enjoyed and knew she would also, she wanted to know how I read it without bending the spine or the cover. She couldn't believe I had read it... LOL... It's just my way of how I read a book.

  6. I would love an e-reader, but at the same time I love having the actual book in my hands. I prefer hardcovers because they don't curl and last longer :)

  7. I love my e-reader the best! If I had to choose an actual print book, I'd pick mass market, but I do prefer ebooks.

  8. Hardcovers usually look best on the shelf- but for reading in bed, smaller is better!

  9. Hardcovers do look nice on the shelf, but so do trade paperbacks, I think. However, I prefer any type of paperbacks when I can get them, just because they're so light, and I do most of my reading on the subway during my commute. I also must admit an affection for mass market paperbacks, since I read so many as a child/teen.
