Monday's Question of the Day (20)

Monday's Question of the Day is hosted by Eleni at /-LA FEMME READERS-/

Question:
When do you call it quits for a book?

My Answer:
I used to call it quits a lot sooner.  Back when I used the library more frequently, I used to abandon books with impunity.  But now that I buy all my own books and review them when I'm done, I can't justify quitting after just a few pages.  Since I've had this blog, I've only abandoned one novel (Spellbinder by Helen Stringer), and that was because I felt like I was going to lose it if I had to read one more page.  I really should have done the same thing with some other books, but I wanted to review them properly.

So I guess my answer is that I'll call it quits when I just can't take it anymore!

  1. I'm like you. I call it quits when I pretty much feel like throwing the book across the room.

  2. This is a great looking blog and I love the name. I am a new follower. I have have a tough time giving up on books, it seems even that one nugget is sometimes worth it weight. I have however give up at least two or three times that I can think of. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  3. I've never called it quits on a book, to be honest! I've had books downright annoy/piss me off to the point where I wanted to throw things -- the book amongst them -- across the room. But I feel incomplete if I don't completely finish a book. There's also the small, small chance that the book will become better towards the end so I choose to give it the benefit of the doubt.

  6. I think, for me, it varies from book to book. I generally have a 6 chapter rule, but I think the story also depends on how engaged I am with the character and his/her story. I'm currently trawling through a book, but am very close to calling it quits because the character is driving me up the wall.

  7. This is a great question... Very seldom do I give up on a book. It's more common that I check a book out from the library and have to return it without having read it. That's always disappointing, but usually when I start a book I persevere.

  8. I call it quits within the first few chapters, unless I have agreed to review.
