2015 TBR Pile Reading Challenge

My TBR pile has become... unmanageable.  I really need to stop acquiring new books!  To help me get through the stack I do have, I decided to join the 2015 TBR Pile Reading Challenge, hosted at Bookish:

2015TBR

I'm not sure how many books I'm going to get through in 2015.  I've already signed up for the Fairytale Retelling Challenge, and a few of those will be books from my TBR pile.  So I think I'm going to go for the A Friendly Hug level, which is 11-20 books.

Here are the books I've read (to be added as I finish them):

1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
2. The Shadow Society by Marie Rutkoski
3. Umbrella Summer by Lisa Graff
4. The Wide-Awake Princess by E. D. Baker
5. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
6. How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff
7. Enchanted by Alethea Kontis
8. Freak of Nature by Julia Crane
9. Plain Kate by Erin Bow
10. Kindred by Octavia E. Butler
11. Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan
etc.

Fairytale Retelling Challenge 2015

The Daily Prophecy

I feel like reading some more fairytale retellings, so I thought doing this challenge next year would be a good way to encourage me to do that.  There are some interesting books coming out next year that fit into this category, and there are also quite a few in my TBR pile and on my want-to-read list that would work, too.

This challenge is hosted by Mel over at The Daily Prophecy.  I'm not going to stress myself out with an unattainable goal, but I'm hoping to get through a few retellings next year... so I'm going to go with the Magic Mirror level, which is 5-9 books.

Here are the books I've read (to be added as I finish them):

1. Beastkeeper by Cat Hellisen
2. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
3. The Wide-Awake Princess by E. D. Baker
4. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
5. Enchanted by Alethea Kontis
etc.

2014 Reading Challenge

I'm challenging myself this year.  Better late than never!

I don't know how much of a challenge this actually will be (although, judging by how much I've read so far this year, it might be more challenging than I realize).  Through Goodreads, I'm challenging myself to read 13 books in 2014 (one per month, plus one... a baker's dozen of books).

La Coccinelle has read 8 books toward her goal of 13 books.

2012 E-Book Challenge

I had fun hosting this challenge this past year, but decided it was time to pass the torch to someone else.  Sarah at Workaday Reads is hosting the challenge for 2012.  I'm going to join the challenge at the CD level (10 books) and see how things go; I may upgrade later... we'll see.

1. Ladybug Girl, Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy, Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad, Ladybug Girl at the Beach
2.

Off The Shelf 2012

I'm doing the Off The Shelf challenge again this year.  I'm going to aim for the Tempted level (5 books) for now; I felt very rushed and stifled with the 2011 challenge because I aimed too high with 15 books... and it ended up not being much fun.  I want to get through all those books in my TBR pile and have fun doing it!

1. Pictures of Hollis Woods by Patricia Reilly Giff
2. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
3. Jolted: Newton Starker's Rules for Survival by Arthur Slade
4. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
5. The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong

6. Voices by Ursula K. Le Guin
7. The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

E-Book Reading Challenge 2012 - Looking for New Host!

As interesting as hosting the 2011 E-Book Reading Challenge has been, I think I'm going to pass the torch to someone else for next year.

It's not an awful lot of work.  You'll need a Mister Linky account and some free time, but that's about it.  If you decide you're up to the task, I can provide more details about what's involved.

If you're interested in hosting, e-mail me and let me know!

2011 Young Adult Reading Challenge

I was wondering if anyone was going to host this challenge this year (it was previously hosted by J. Kaye).  Jamie at For The Love of YA has taken over hosting duties for 2011.  Since I read mostly YA fiction anyway, I thought I might as well join this challenge.

I think I'm going to start with the Mini YA Reading Challenge for now and read 12 books.  I might eventually upgrade to the Fun Size YA Reading Challenge (20 books), depending on how things go in the first few months of 2011.  Here are the books:

1. The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening by L. J. Smith
2. Breathless by Lurlene McDaniel
3. Eli the Good by Silas House
4. One Night With The Fae by Claire Farrell
5. God Went to Beauty School by Cynthia Rylant
6. Wrapped by Jennifer Bradbury
7. The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder
8. The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson
9. Evil? by Timothy Carter
10. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
11. Tempestuous by Lesley Livingston
12. Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi

13. Salt by Maurice Gee
14. The Lost Crown by Sarah Miller
15. The Other Side of the Island by Allegra Goodman
16. The Always War by Margaret Peterson Haddix
17. The Poison Eaters: and Other Stories by Holly Black
18. Ice by Sarah Beth Durst
19. Dreamhunter by Elizabeth Knox
20. I Heart You, You Haunt Me by Lisa Schroeder

Updated December 9, 2011: I guess I've hit the "Fun Size" level, without really trying!  I'll have to change my progress bars to reflect this...

2011 E-Book Reading Challenge

Ladies and gentlemen! Start your engines e-readers!

This challenge was previously hosted by Alaine at Queen of Happy Endings.  When she started looking for new homes for the 2011 challenges, I jumped at the chance to host this one.  Since getting a Kobo eReader this past year, I've started reading more e-books.  Since e-readers are now available internationally, a lot more people are going to be reading books in digital format.  So why not challenge yourself and read even more?

Challenge Guidelines:
1. Anyone can join. You don't need a blog to participate.

--Non-bloggers: Include your information in the comment section.

2. There are seven levels:

-- Curious – Read 3 e-books.

-- Fascinated – Read 6
e-books.

-- Addicted – Read 12
e-books.

-- Obsessed – Read
20 e-books.

-- Possessed – Read
50 e-books.

-- Fanatical – Read
75 e-books.

-- Monomaniacal – Read
100 e-books.

3. Any genre counts.

4. You can list your books in advance or just put them in a wrap-up post. If you list them, feel free to change them as the mood takes you.

5. Challenge begins January 1, 2011 and lasts until December 31, 2011.

6. When you sign up under Mr. Linky, put the direct link to your post about the E-Book Reading Challenge. Include the URL so that other participants can join in and read your reviews and post.

If you'd like some progress bars for your challenge post, you can find the instructions for making them here.

Off The Shelf Challenge

Off The Shelf!

Are your books multiplying like rabbits before you even get a chance to read them? Trying to keep up with them, but can't stop buying new ones?

Maybe this challenge is for you. I know what it's like. There's so many titles and so many beautiful books out there sometimes it's hard to keep that TBR shelf under control, but if you really want to try why not challenge yourself?

   3. Making A Dint – Choose 30 books to read
   4. On A Roll – Choose 50 books to read
   5. Flying Off – Choose 75 books to read

For extra hard challenges

   1. Hoarder – Choose 75 - 125 books to read
   2. Buried – Choose 125 - 200 books to read

Well, since I don't have that big of a TBR pile, I think I'm going to go with Trying.  Here are the 15 books that I read for the challenge:

Fall Into Reading 2010

Essentially, Fall Into Reading 2010 is a fun, low-pressure reading challenge open to anyone and everyone. It will take place September 22nd-December 20th (which, as you may have guessed, is the fall of 2010).

To participate, here’s what you need to do:

  • Create a list of some books you’d like to read or finish this fall. This is the only real requirement for participating in the challenge.
  • Feel free to set some additional reading goals (such as reading to your kids two hours per week, getting through your pile of magazines, etc.). However, this is not required; setting additional goals is completely optional.
  • Write a blog post that includes the list of books you want to read (and any additional goals you’ve set), and get ready to post it on your blog on September 22nd.
  • Visit Callapidder Days on September 22nd to sign up for the challenge. I’ll have an official launch post up that morning, complete with an area for you to submit a link to your personal Fall Into Reading post, where it will be added to the master list of participants.
  • Read! Work on your goals throughout Fall 2010.
  • Report your results. Write another blog post in December to let everyone know how you did. (I’ll post an official wrap-up to the challenge on December 21st, where you’ll be able to share your results.)
  • Have fun! Visit other participants to see what they’re reading. Write reviews if you’re so inclined. But most of all, enjoy your fall reading!
Okay... so I guess this is my post!  I really need something to help get me through some of my other challenges, as well as start to tackle this TBR pile (which is not so much a pile anymore as a self-replicating book creature that's starting to spread all over my bedroom).

This list is subject to change. A ladybug () will sit next to the title when I've finished a book.  I know it's a bit late to be starting, but here are the books I want to get through in the next three months:

1. Draw the Dark by Ilsa J. Bick
2. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
3. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
4. Hunger by Jackie Morse Kessler
5. The Puzzle Ring by Kate Forsyth
6. The Vespertine by Saundra Mitchell
7. 100 Cupboards by N. D. Wilson

Total progress:

7 / 7 books. 100% done!

In The Middle Reading Challenge

I found another challenge! This one shouldn't be too difficult. It's called the In The Middle Reading Challenge and it's hosted over at The O.W.L.

I still have Gail Carson Levine's The Fairy's Return sitting in my TBR pile, and it kept getting passed over in favour of YA titles. Maybe this sort of challenge is what I need to get reading (plus, I recently discovered a fifth book to a middle grade series I read years ago... so if I can track it down, I'll be a happy camper!).

I'm just going to go with the 5th Grader level (read 4 middle grade books) for this challenge. That should be manageable.

A ladybug () will sit next to the title when I've finished a book:

1. M Is for Magic by Neil Gaiman

2. Ever by Gail Carson Levine

3. The Magic Thief by Sarah Prineas

4. 100 Cupboards by N. D. Wilson

Total progress:

4 / 4 books. 100% done!

2010 Fantasy Reading Challenge

I figure joining another challenge is a good motivator to help me get through my TBR pile. I've got a number of fantasy novels in there already, and not all of them are young adult (which is another challenge I've signed up for). So I'm going to join the 2010 Fantasy Reading Challenge at Royal Reviews. I'm going to actually make this a challenge for myself and choose the Fascinated category.

Challenge Guidelines:
1. Anyone can join. You don't need a blog to participate.
--Non-Bloggers: Include your information in the comment section.

2. There are four levels:

-- Curious – Read 3 Fantasy Fiction novels.

-- Fascinated – Read 6 Fantasy Fiction novels.

-- Addicted – Read 12 Fantasy Fiction novels.

-- Obsessed – Read 20 Fantasy Fiction novels.

3. Any book format counts.

4. You can list your books in advance or just put them in a wrap up post. If you list them, feel free to change them as the mood takes you.

5. Challenge begins January 1st thru December, 2010. Only books started on January 1st count towards this challenge.

6. When you sign up under Mr. Linky, put the direct link to the post about the Fantasy Fiction Reading Challenge. Include the URL so that other participants can find join in and read your reviews and post.

I'm assuming that you don't actually have to start all the books on January 1st as it says in Rule #5...

Here's my list (I'll add more as I think of them). A ladybug () will sit next to the title when I've finished a book:

1. Draw the Dark by Ilsa J. Bick

2. My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares

3. The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly

4. The Puzzle Ring by Kate Forsyth

5. The Girl with Glass Feet by Ali Shaw

6. Basajaun by Rosemary Van Deuren

Total progress:

6 / 6 books. 100% done!

2010 Young Adult Reading Challenge

I've never done a challenge before because I read pretty slowly and I never think I can manage to get through enough books. But since I read almost exclusively YA books (in fiction, anyway), I thought I'd give this challenge a try. It's hosted by J. Kaye at J. Kaye's Book Blog and runs from January 1st to December 31st 2010. I'm going to start with The Mini YA Reading Challenge – Read 12 Young Adult novels (and if I find that I'm going to finish that way too early, I'll upgrade later).

Here we go! This list is subject to change. A ladybug () will sit next to the title when I've finished a book:

1. The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong

2. The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong

3. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

4. The Explosionist by Jenny Davidson

5. Dream Spinner by Bonnie Dobkin

6. If I Stay by Gayle Forman

7. Darklight by Lesley Livingston

8. Tiger Moon by Antonia Michaelis

9. Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

10. Dreaming Anastasia by Joy Preble

11. Prophecy of Days - Book One: The Daykeeper's Grimoire by Christy Raedeke

12. The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

Total progress:
