ReplyDeleteFred from The Ruby in the Smoke was my first ever literary crush. I don't think I'm ever going to forget Philip Pullman for what he did to him! It's been, like, 14 years since I first read The Shadow of the North and I'm still all "aaaargh" every time I think about it. Sigh.
