Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted at The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's topic is Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR List. You know, it seems kind of silly to make a list like this, since I didn't get through all the books on my Fall TBR list... or my Summer TBR list.  I either need to stop getting sidetracked by reading other stuff, or I need to read faster so I can cross more of these books off my list!  Or I need to stop filling up my TBR list with new books.  Yeah... that last one is probably what I should do...

And We Stay by Jenny Hubbard - I'm a sucker for novels in verse.  This one's subject matter looks heavy, but it looks like it might be a good story, too.

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick - Sounds like a suitable book for winter, does it not?  I thought Hush, Hush was okay, but the narrator was kind of stupid.  I've heard this book is better in that regard.

A Dream of Lights by Kerry Drewery - This looks cold and bleak, but also kind of fascinating.  Young adult novels set in North Korea are not exactly common!

The Ex Games by Jennifer Echols - Snowboarding... winter... yeah.  I don't think I want to read a book like this in the summer, do I?

Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers - I've heard (mostly) good things about this book and its sequel, and people are already talking about the third book, so I really should start this series before I end up encountering spoilers.

The Lord of Opium by Nancy Farmer - I don't think I've read a book by this author I haven't liked.  Maybe I'll read this one if I find myself needing to take the bad taste of another book out of my mouth!

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo - I don't know a lot about this series, but I don't think I've heard anything bad about it.  The synopsis does sound interesting (and I know I'm way behind on this series; I need to get to it... yesterday)!

Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen - I've been meaning to get to this one for a while.  I should just read it already!

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas - Yeah, I know.  Why haven't I read this one yet?  To be frank, I'm a bit leery of this one because it's had so much hype.  I have had bad luck with over-hyped books lately.  But I do kind of want to see what all the fuss is about.

The Winter Witch by Paula Brackston - What other time of year am I going to read a book about a winter witch?  Summer?

What's on your TBR list this winter?

  1. Yeah, I like making lists, but I so rarely stick to them. Black Ice could be good, I prefer to read winter books in summer though and vice versa. A good way to stay warm in the winter and cool off in the summer. ;) I plan to read Grave Mercy & Throne of Glass soon too. Shadow and Bone is good. Such a good list!

    1. That's a good point. I sure could've used some icy books this past summer! But I also find it's easier to imagine winter settings in the winter and summer settings in the summer... so there's that, too.

  2. Okay let's start with Black Ice. I thought it was a great book, but you can't go in expecting to be blown out of the water, or you will be disappointed. It was a good book, and a great winter read!

Grave Mercy: I liked the book moderately so. The second book is AMAZINGLY better, and I haven't read the third, which I will do once I get a copy. :)

Shadow and Bone: The most unique book I have ever read and couldn't get enough of. The series is astounding! If you don't mind a lot of description and a very unique Russian twist to a fantasy world, you will like it. I highly recommend the audiobooks though. There's a lot of russian type language in it that can make people go a bit crazy, but the audiobooks are 100% fabulous in every stinkin' way!

STolen SOngbird! YESS!!!! Read this book! It's beautiful and great and all things wonderful! I really can't wait till the sequel comes out!!!

Throne of Glass: Obviously, you know I love this book. It's my favorite! But looking back, I can see how the first book is lacking in comparison with the rest of the series (because I swear they only get better!). So if you think the first one is 'meh' then read the next one, and then decide how you feel about it. :)

    1. I'm not a huge fan of audiobooks, so I'll probably read the Shadow and Bone books. I don't mind lots of description, and a Russian twist sounds awesome! There don't seem to be a lot of fiction novels with that kind of setting (unless they're about the Romanov family).

I think I need to just get to Throne of Glass and be done with it. Maybe for my next read. I've heard so many people rave about the series, so now I'm really curious!

  3. The Ex Games looks cute! Might have to add this to my TBR as well!

    1. It was one of those really good bargains that I picked up a while back. But I've since read some pretty good reviews of it, so maybe it's time to give it a shot!

  4. I think I want to read Grave Mercy. It seems like the series is everywhere lately.

  5. And We Stay and Shadow and Bone are on my list as well. Well, not my TTT, but my TBR. Happy Reading!

    1. Yeah... my TBR in general is just ridiculous. It was hard to pick just 10 books for this TTT!

  6. If you thought that the Hush, Hush MC was stupid, I don't think you'll be pleased with Black Ice. I could not handle her stupidity in relation to EVERY SINGLE THING.

Shadow and Bone is seriously one of my favourite books of all time. Everything about it is practically perfect *cough* The Darkling *cough*

I know what you mean about hype books. I swear I never like them :/ That was the case for Throne of Glass. BUT if you feel the same, I suggest you keep going. The books keep getting better and better and I am now in love with the series!

    1. Interesting... I actually put Black Ice on my list because I'd heard that the main character wasn't as stupid as Nora! Well, Nora was TSTL... so I guess she might've set the stupidity bar overly high.

  7. I've heard a lot of good things about black ice, but I didn't enjoy her hush hush series so I'm a bit reluctant! Have to let me know what you think of that!

I also own shadow and bone and throne of glass and have yet to pick them up so want to know what you think of those too!

    1. I didn't really enjoy the Hush, Hush series, either. In fact, I couldn't even get into the second book, so I've only read the first (and my opinion of it has diminished over time).

If/when I read any of the other books on this list, I'll be sure to review them on my blog!

  8. I've been wanting to read Stolen Songbird for a while now. I'm hoping to get to it in the next few months too. Hope you enjoy The Ex Games. I really like Jennifer Echols.

    1. I hope I enjoy The Ex Games, too. I haven't read anything else from the author yet, so I don't really know anything about her style of writing.
