Mrs. Louise Mallard, afflicted with a heart condition, reflects on the death of her husband from the safety of her locked room.
(synopsis from Goodreads)
Poor Louise was living in the wrong time period. What the woman needed was a good divorce!
The story being so short, it's difficult to say much about it without giving away too much (especially the ending). I did somewhat enjoy it, though... or, at the very least, I appreciated it. The writing is that old-fashioned sort that sounds quite odd to our modern ears, even though the subject matter in this case seems almost modern. Louise's thoughts about her marriage (or lack thereof, going forward) are interesting.
I'd recommend having a look at this one, even if you're not a huge fan of older literature. It only takes a few minutes to read, and it's a thought-provoking little piece.
