Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Books I Want To Reread

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted at The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's topic is Top Ten Books I Want To Reread.  I'm not really a re-reader.  I figure there are too many books out there and I'll never get to read all the ones I want to read if I'm spending time reading ones I've already read.  But if I had some sort of time machine that let me step outside of time so I could reread all my favourite books, it would be these ones:

A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb - I was utterly captivated by the writing and story the first time I read this book... so much so that I went in search of any other novels the author had written; at that time, however, this was the only one.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor - I don't really feel like I need to reread this one (at least not yet) because it is still fairly fresh in my mind.  But this book gave me a reading experience I hadn't had in a long time: the author managed to surprise me and rip my heart out at the same time.

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones - Aside from Fire and Hemlock, this is one of my favourite Diana Wynne Jones novels.  I'm almost tempted to read this one again, if only to get the awful residue from the movie version out of my brain.  I fell in love with the book's characters; I was disappointed by the movie's.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë - I've watched multiple movie adaptations since I first read this book almost twenty years ago... but I've only read it once!  It is one of my favourite classics, so perhaps I could make an exception and one day read this one again.

Sabriel by Garth Nix - I fell in love with the magical world the author created when I read this book.  I never could get into the sequels, but I do have such fond memories of this book that I think that sometimes I might like to read it again.

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner - I think I actually have read this one more than once, as I first read it back when I was a rereader and I just had to relive the magic.  It's not always easy to find a middle-grade adventure that will suck in an adult reader just as well as a kid.

Tiger Moon by Antonia Michaelis - This is one of my favourite fantasy novels.  Reminiscent of Scheherazade, it has a gorgeous setting and unforgettable characters.  I remember how much I enjoyed reading this book the first time.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer - Surprised?  Yes, I really dislike this series.  But if I had nothing but time, I wouldn't mind rereading the first book in the series.  I'd like to analyze it, to try to figure out what it was that made it so popular.  I wouldn't bother with the rest of them again, though; I'm not that much of a masochist.

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion - This is my favourite zombie novel, and one of my favourite reads of 2013.  The narration and R's character are so memorable and wonderful.

Wren to the Rescue by Sherwood Smith - Like The Thief, this book may also have been read more than once when I was much younger.  I know it was one of the first fantasy novels that really captivated me, and I am tempted to read it again, just to see what it was that struck me so.

What are some books that you would like to reread?

  1. YAYAYAYYAY SABRIEL. I'm going to get the book set with Clariel and Abhorsen (the last two I haven't reaed) and then also the FIRST two books, and just binge read the entire series :D

I read A Certain Slant of Light a long long long time ago, but I have it at home. Maybe I'll reread it? I don't know. I didn't really like it the time I read it, but then again that's when I was younger

    1. Maybe one day I'll have to give Lirael another try. I just couldn't get into it when I tried to read it... and without reading the second book, I never bothered with the others.

I love A Certain Slant of Light! I've been meaning to read the sequel for so long, but I just haven't gotten around to it (mainly because it's more money than I want to spend and the library doesn't have it).

  2. Great list. I still haven't read Sabriel despite my friends pushing it on me in highschool all those years ago. I've seen it on a few lists today so time to give it a go.

It was so amazing and my mind was blown with just how much I freakishly enjoyed the details and the world building and the characters and the mythology. I only have the last book to read now. Squee!

    1. Ooh... the last book is good! I thought it was a great end to a series. And I'm rarely impressed with series/trilogy enders...

  4. I love rereading book! I really liked Daughter of Smoke and Bone too. I've only read Sabriel and I thought it was good, but not great. I was hoping the sequels were better. Did you hear he just wrote another? Clariel? I want to read Warm Bodies, I could use a funny book.

    1. Yeah, I've heard about Clariel, but since I haven't read the other two books in between, I don't think I'll bother. I just couldn't get into books #2 and #3; I think the problem was that I'd fallen in love with the characters from Sabriel... and the second book takes place years later, so it's pretty much a new cast of characters.

Warm Bodies does have some humour in it, but I'm not sure I would call it a "funny" book. It's definitely heart-warming, though. I love R!
