Booking Through Thursday (34)

Booking Through Thursday asks:

Do other people in your family also like to read? Or are you in this on your own?

In my immediate family, I'm the most voracious reader.  My mom reads fiction when she has time.  My father rereads his favourites over and over (maybe that's why I'm averse to rereading... he makes it look so boring).  My sister reads, but her tastes are more quirky than mine.  Some of the books she likes are ones I've never heard of!  Although, she did brave Fifty Shades of Grey and warned me away from it (for which I will be forever grateful).

I know that some of my cousins are really active readers... though I don't have a lot of contact with them.  So I'm pretty much in this reading thing on my own!

  1. I'm pretty much the most voracious reader in my family too. My kids and husband read, two sisters do, one doesn't and my Mom does. I won't read Fifty Shades of Grey either!

    1. I've never understood how people can not read. I guess I get it if you're in school and burned out by assigned reading. But once you're free to read whatever you like? There are so many books out there to choose from; surely one of them would be to your liking!

  2. I'm the most avid reader in my family as well. I try to warn as many people as I can away from Fifty Shades.

    1. All the warning away has started to make me curious... and yet, the book doesn't interest me at all. I've already read Twilight, and apparently the overall plot is kind of similar. I don't need to go there again!

  3. My mom was a huge book junkie, so I think that's where my love of reading came from. #1 does pick-up the odd novel, but those occasions are few and far between. All this to say that I'm pretty much all by my lonesome in my bookworm status. I gave Fifty Shades of Grey to see what all of the fuss was about, and I actually didn't mind it as a one-time thing, however that genre won't be making a regular appearance on my shelves.

    1. Yeah, I don't think that genre is something I've ever really been drawn to. I'm a bit curious, and I might like to try reading something from that genre at least once... but I'm sure there are better examples than Fifty Shades of Grey out there!

  4. I'm lucky enough to have two sisters that read (I'm a triplet!). My one sister will read on occasion, but my other sister loves reading nearly as much as I do. We both LOVE fantasy and high fantasy, so I can always check out those kind of books and know that we'll both love them. Then we get in discussions/passionate arguments about them -- it's great! :D

    1. Ooh... you're lucky that you have family members with the same reading tastes! Built-in book recommendations whenever you need them? I love it!
