Rosie and her Mum have a day at the beach.

(synopsis from Goodreads)

That was depressing. "Rosie and her Mum have a day at the beach" is technically accurate as a synopsis, but it's not really complete. It's a story about a rather inexplicable loss, written with some prose so purple as to be almost bruised.

As a short story, I'm not sure if it works. It almost reads more like a prologue to a novel or screenplay. The plot itself isn't that interesting; far more interesting would be what comes after. Or perhaps exploring what, exactly, happened would've made this a little more engaging.

Plot: 2/5
Characters: 2/5
Pace: 3/5
Writing & Editing: 2/5
Originality: 3/5

Enjoyment: 2/5

Overall Rating: 2.29 out of 5 ladybugs
