Top Ten Tuesday is hosted at The Broke and the Bookish.
This week's topic is Top Ten Characters I'd Like To Check In With. How do I even make such a list without spoilers? I guess all I can do is list some names; if you've read the books, you'll probably know why I picked these particular characters. Sometimes their stories just don't seem finished; in other cases, I'd just like to know what they're up to now.
Top Ten Characters I'd Like To Check In With:
- Marina from All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill
- Judith from All the Truth That's in Me by Julie Berry
- Birdy from Catherine, Called Birdy by Karen Cushman
- Karou from the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor
- Calder from The Fetch by Laura Whitcomb
- Tom from Fire and Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones
- Po from Liesl & Po by Lauren Oliver
- Daniel from My Name Is Memory by Ann Brashares
- Jack from Room by Emma Donoghue
- Ty from Stolen: A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher
Which characters would you like to check in with?
I've only read #2 and #10, but I agree -- I'd like to know what happened to those characters. I always wonder how everyone/everything turns out :)
ReplyDeleteYeah... those two characters would have very different lives after the ends of their respective stories. It would be interesting to see how things worked out (or didn't) for them.
DeleteKarou! Yes, and anyone from that series really. I just want more! I think it's the epic writing in that series that makes it so addicting and she creates such awesome characters. =)
ReplyDeleteI really loved the way those books were written. I know some people aren't crazy about the author's writing style, but I love it... even though I have to crack open the dictionary every second page!
DeleteHow shameful that I haven't read any of these. Room is on my TBR, but otherwise I'm at a loss. I'll have to look into these other books!
ReplyDeleteRoom is really good; I enjoyed it immensely. As for the rest, they're middle grade and young adult titles... so if you're not really big on reading books for younger readers, you might not have read them.
DeleteI haven't gotten the chance to read any of these, but I have wanted to read the Daughter of Smoke and Bone! Also I never knew about the Lauren Oliver and Dianna Wynne Jones book, but I want to read them now! Good to know these books have characters worthy of being checked in on. Great list!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely check out Daughter of Smoke & Bone! The whole series is awesome. (And that's coming from someone who rarely likes whole series.)
DeleteGosh, I haven't read any of the books on this list :/ Sometimes when that happens I'm just painfully reminded of how enormous and infinite me to-read list is xD
ReplyDeleteHow did you like All Our Yesterdays? I've heard some mixed reviews, so I haven't picked it up yet. All the Truth that's in Me sounds like an amazing book, I really need to read it soon~
Thanks for stopping by at my TTT earlier :)
- Connie @ The YA Book Thief
I loved All Our Yesterdays! It's my top-rated read so far this year. I was pleasantly surprised.
DeleteI would definitely love find out more on Karou and Zuzanna!
ReplyDeleteMissie @ A Flurry of Ponderings
Have you read the companion novella? I haven't yet... but I think there's more in there about Karou's best friend.
DeleteI would love to check in with Marina! I was really sad when Cristin announced that she was no longer going to publish the supposed sequel for All Our Yesterdays. :(
ReplyDeleteI *sadly* haven't read the other books you mentioned in this list.
Aimee @ Deadly Darlings
Yeah, that was too bad. But I understand her reasoning. I wouldn't want her to publish something that didn't do justice to the first book. I guess it'll just have to be a standalone.
DeleteI seriously am ashamed that I haven't read any of these! What is wrong with me!? I need to read DoSaB immediately, so I can freak out over Karou too! All Our Yesterdays and All the Truth That's in Me are also on my TBR! Great list!!
ReplyDeleteShannon @ It Starts At Midnight
I was late to the Daughter of Smoke & Bone party, too. And then, when I read the first book, my reaction was like, "Why didn't I read this sooner? Aaahhh!"
DeleteI totally forgot about Jack from Room when making my list... I really do wonder what happened to him, and what his life looks like now...
ReplyDeleteYeah... how do you start out life that way and end up even close to normal? I'd definitely like to know what happens to him as he gets older.
DeleteI completely agree with all of these. I think Marina is definitely a character I'd want to check in with, especially after that ending. (And Em, too, for that matter). I want to see how her character's changed after everything she's gone through, you know?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, and great choices! ♥
~ Zoe @ Stories on Stage
That ending was... *sigh* I really wish there had been more of their story.
DeleteJudith! YES. That is such a perfect one. I can't even barely remember how that book ended, it's been like 2 years since I read it. I wiiiish I had time for rereading. It was so incredible. I remember reading it in one sitting and just being kind of gobsmacked the whole time. People are SO MEAN. xD
ReplyDeleteI know. Even her own mother! I was wondering what was wrong with all those villagers.
