The language is simple yet sophisticated, and the younger characters are portrayed with respect; kids are people, too! It bothers me when books come across as too young, because it usually seems like the author has forgotten what it was like to be young and they've bought into this idea that kids won't notice if something is lazily written or just downright stupid. Some might not notice, it's true. But then the author is alienating potential adult readers, which is kind of pointless if you want your books to be widely read by all sorts of folks. (I have some favourite picture books, too. A few of them I just discovered last year! If they're good, it doesn't matter how old you are.)La Coccinellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03118313017081994087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8107652553845392650.post-36167945504260613862015-08-02T04:16:32.775-07:002015-08-02T04:16:32.775-07:00I hate condescending books. Even though I'm, probably, too old for MG, I still sort of believe that ALL books should be able to be enjoyed by any age. I love so many MG books still! So yeah...when a book feels too irritatingly young? There could be problems. (I even have picture books that I love a lot that I read to my preschooling niece/nephew on our library days. XD) Also the inaccuracies are sad.CG @ Paper Furyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14954615708675952085noreply@blogger.com
